“The mobilization of the workers of the Sigma Tau pharmaceutical company continues at an increasingly rapid pace. After the bankruptcy meetings at the Lazio Region and the Ministry of Economic Development, today the requests of employees and trade union organizations are addressed to the Prime Minister. We ask for a decisive intervention that will allow us to save a company of great importance in the pharmaceutical sector and of strategic importance for the economic development of the area and to guarantee employment continuity for the 569 workers that Sigma Tau wants to lay off". This is what the leader of the Federation of the Left in the Lazio Region, Ivano Peduzzi, and the PRC Labor Manager, Claudio Fiorella, who is currently together with the workers, affirm.
“Hundreds – they say – are guarding the entrance to the Pomezia plant day and night, against the corporate arrogance which is the result of a liberal design carried out with absolute arrogance by the top management of Sigma Tau. A ferocious restructuring plan behind the workers' backs which, applied to a delicate sector such as the pharmaceutical one, translates into corporate downgrading, cuts in research and scientific representatives".
“The sudden decision to reduce production and thus cease activity in the research sector – they continue – seems to be the prelude to a total divestment of activities, which risks being the coup de grace for an area already devastated and impoverished by the crisis. These decisions, taken unilaterally by the company, without any confrontation with the trade union organizations, are unacceptable. For this reason, as a party of the communist refoundation and a group of the Federation of the Left, we immediately decided to start a form of active solidarity with the workers in front of the gates, placing our forces and our organization at their disposal. The goal is to continue the protest together, also involving workers from other companies in the area. We have equipped ourselves with tents and field kitchens, aware that the protest will go on for a long time to come, alternating with party militants to always guarantee our presence at the garrison".
After today's visit by the PRC Labor manager, Claudia Fiorella, next Monday the regional leader of the FDS, Ivano Peduzzi, will personally go to the gates of Sigma Tau. It will then be the turn of the regional councilor of the Federation of the Left, Fabio Nobile and, in the coming days, of the national secretary of the Communist Refoundation, Paolo Ferrero.
